The Most Luxurious and Expensive Family House in the World

When we talk about the most expensive and luxurious family house in the world, the three questions that come to mind are: How much? Where is it? Who owns it?

When we think of the price tag it would at least be in a couple of hundreds of million dollars. The tenth spot belongs to – believe it or not – Dracula’s Castle somewhere in Romania. Drac’s Castle is already at the $135 Million mark.

Now, thinking of where the most expensive house is located our imagination will bring us to places like France, London, Monacco, Beverlyhills, and Tokyo. Yes, we’ll find a couple of the most expensive houses in the top 10 list in some of these places, but the number one spot is nowhere in any of the mentioned places.

When ownership comes to mind, of course, the top ten billionaires will be in our usual suspects line up like Carlos Slim, Warren Buffet and Bill Gates. But Warren is a conservative and frugal rich guy who insists on staying in his old house, while Xanadu 2.0 (Bill’s nickname for his house) didn’t even make it in the Top 10 list (I wonder why?).

Answering the first question, the most expensive house in the world is way beyond the couple of hundreds of million dollars category. Antilla – nick name for the most expensive house – is at a staggering price of $1 billion or £630 million. It is actually way beyond number 2 in the top 10 list. Villa Leopolda the one that holds the number 2 spot is priced at $506 million only.

Antilla is a 27 tower block in Mumbai, India. It sits on a 48,780 sq ft (4,532 square metres) plot of land. Yes, it is owned by one of the Top 10 Billionaires and no, he isn’t one of the top 5 billionaires. Mukesh Ambani, who is currently holding the number 9 spot, is the owner of the priciest house in the world.  Although,  Ambani “briefly” held the richest man title back in 2007.

Antilla has many amenities like a health club, a dance studio, and a gym. It also has a ballroom (adorned with solid gold chandeliers hanging from its ceiling), swimming pool, guestrooms, a 50-seater cinema, a variety of lounges, and 9 elevators. On the tower’s roof one can see 3 helipads and its 6 storey parking garage has a capacity for 160 cars. Did I mention that it also has a four-storey hanging garden?

And there we have it, the most expensive and luxurious family house in the world is a 27 storey tower in Mumbai, India, owned by the 9th richest man in the world, and has an exhorbitant price of $1 billion. Did I mention that this lavish and super expensive house has been left lying empty – since its completion – for more than a year now?
