Battle of the Two Most Expensive Shoes in the World

In July 2011, we featured the Top 5 Most Luxurious Foot Wear by Stuart Weitzman. Weitzman’s Rita Hayworth Heels occupied the number 1 spot having an outrageous price of $3 million. A cost that says, “You better wear me forever!” The question is, is there another pair of shoes that can beat its price?

Apparently there is! Well not actually beat the Weitzman’s creation’s price but at least share the number one spot with the Rita Hayworth Heels. Yes it is also worth $3 million and it is crafted by the house of Harry Winston. It is a shoe inspired by the shoes worn by Dorothy of the Wizard of Oz, a classic 1939 MGM movie starring Judy Garland as Dorothy.

The shoes were studded with precious stones, particularly, rubies. The ruby slippers were designed by Ronald Winston and crafted by craftsman Javiar Barerra. It took Barerra four months to set 4,600 rubies (1,350 carats) and 50 carats of diamonds in the slippers and deliver the finished product.

The ruby slippers were designed to mark and commemorate The Wizard of Oz’s fiftieth anniversary. It was unveiled for the first time at Manhattan’s Trump Towers by Winston with Donald Trump himself acting as the co-host. The ruby slippers also took part in tours that benefit children’s charities like the Starlight Foundation, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the Juvenile Diabetes  foundation.

The Rita Hayworth Heels serves one purpose only and that’s to adorn the feet of Yasmin Aga Khan (Rita’s daughter). While the Ronald Winston creation tours around earning money for children’s charities, trying to be a true, shall we say, shoe-lanthropist?

So if we will compare the two most expensive pairs of shoes (with a combined value that can feed several towns in Africa for a year) with regard to it’s real worth, which do you think is worth having?
